Originally Stevens and Williams, the name changed to Royal Brierley in 1926, a result of consistent Royal Patronage. The firm was a victim of the1991 recession and plans to re-locate and build a Visitor Centre did not occur. The firm was closed in 2000. The remaining business was purchased by a consortium and re-opened in Dudley with a shop. After purchase by the Dartington Group, production ceased though some glass was made by Dartington. The Dudley shop finally closed a few years ago.
